"Phi Of Khem dives headfirst into a modern psychedelic chamber pop cadence on the tender “So Low”. Quite expressive and expansive, her voice contains multitudes for her balladry is an absolute joy to behold. Trance, folktronica, classical, dance, and a whole bunch of other approaches help to give such a pastoral beauty to it. Lyricism has a poetry to it with each verse cascading downwards. Attention to detail matters for she weighs each word for maximum impact. One of the greatest parts of the sound comes from the celebratory, even defiant, spirit of the atmosphere as it grows ever more pointed and poignant.
Four Tet’s elegant sonic sculptures certainly come into play here, for the emphasis on the guitar proves to be undeniable. Their ability to merge it with the electronic adds to the overall lovely hues that they incorporate throughout. A sense of purpose and place enters into the mix, and their hopefulness leads the way. In terms of their pop chops and their ability to confound the listener, their spirit has a bit of Saint Etienne’s album “So Tough” to it, for the songs have a balance between the real and the imagined. Much of the collection has this gentle dreamy expressiveness and that, alongside the sheer power of the vocals, grants it a certain majesty.
Graceful gestures introduce the sound on the soulful title track and opener “So Low”. The piano and guitar are woven together. Clever, concise percussion skitters about giving it a dexterity that feels awe-inspiring. Melodically rich the way that they evolve the sound out feels outright gorgeous to behold. Nods to rock emerge throughout the piece for they switch the tempos up multiple times, helping to add to the emphasis on evolution. Her vocals have a compassionate quality to them. Right in the very beginning of “The Negative Confession” the angelic wordless choir and field recordings touch upon a bit of the KLF’s mysterious magic. Kept at a patient pace, they explore an entire world of their own creation. Full of such vibrancy they confound expectations to it, making it easily the highlight of the collection as the piano further highlights the reflective stance of the piece. Usage of a whole slew of different unique instrumentation feels righteous. “Believe – Live-ish in Armana @ I.I.MCCCXL” ends the collection off on compassionate note, for there is a journey that unfurls within the many layers as there is a sense of peace to be discovered deep inside.
“So Low” proves Phi Of Khem to be skilled at creating thought-provoking, timeless pieces of pop that touch the very heart."

"Defying easy categorization, Phi Of Khem offers up a truly unique body of work on “Believe”. They blend so many different genres resulting in a hybrid of styles that feels outright joyous. EDM, pop, folk, electro, industrial, all of these are merged into a singular stream of consciousness approach that has a living, breathing aspect behind it. Best of all however are the vocals which have a soothing, warm, inviting presence to them, for every verse is crafted with the utmost of care. Almost tropical at times, the sun-drenched quality of the collection is pure bliss.
A whole slew of references enters into the fray, which further rounds out the epic, sprawling sound. Nods to Ladytron’s effortlessly catchy hooks adorn much of the experience. The anthemic experience of the work, the way they let the entire experience evolve, gives it a sense of life akin to Massive Attack’s big, booming tracks. On the meditative, ambient side of things they bring a bit of the Future Sound of London’s love for their surroundings into the mix. By balancing all of these together the result is something that feels all-consuming in the best way possible.
The wash of sound that introduces “Believe” gives it a seaside spirit. From that initial spark, a whole universe comes into the fray. Easily the highlight of the collection, the intense energy feels awe-inspiring. By allowing the melody to hook up with the groove in the best way possible, there is an urgency about the work. Sort of bringing things down a bit is the meditative reflection of “All I Need”. Production here has a stunning splendor about it for the sound feels absolutely shimmering. Layer upon layer is brought into the mix and the approach goes for a Balearic quality. A full embrace of the dance floor comes the “Intentions Remix”. Here the four to the floor beat has a force of nature power to it as it neatly ties the whole of the piece together in a gorgeous, sprawling way.
“Believe” shows off the deft skill of Phi Of Khem in creating a unique sonic universe entirely of their own making."

"After a myriad of magnificent releases Phi Of Khem's full length album 'AllKHEMy' is released. Beginning the journey is the haunting 'Let Me Drive' which kick starts the album with it's ever evolving structure. Phi Of Khem truly exhibits alchemy in taking EDM and transforming it into an expansive sound that is beautifully genre-bending. Taking the edges of the envelope of EDM and stretching them on each track the listener is repeatedly dropped into a unique soundscape that unfolds and reveals sounds and sonics of otherworldly origins.
'Are You Only Passing Through' displays these signature attributes, mysterious vocals detail a distant romance while the accompanying music rides a roller coaster of rhythm with high speed synthetic drops and sudden melodic loops. 'Back Home' slows down the pace with a vibe akin to a wild Space-Age Country Western, with hard driving mid tempo percussion, a twangy guitar riff and a trudging bassline. Each track on 'AllKHEMy' boasts a recognizable fiber but beyond it's core make-up something vastly different is happening on the surface, like life on Earth, or some other distant planet perhaps, the key ingredients are felt but they manifest into a multitude of varying forms. Phi Of Khem plays with these building blocks of audio life and crafts songs that differ while simultaneously giving evidence to one true creator or origin.
'I Am Your Love' is a fast paced hypnotic ballad with pulsating synths and keys and angelic vocals. 'Why Are You Always Hiding' and 'Eyes On You' conclude the album and end on a slightly slower pace though equally as innovative. 'Why Are You Always Hiding' blends into Rock territory while 'Eyes On You' creates a trance like experience.
'AllKHEMy' is a fantastic ride from start to finish, a journey that truly worth traveling many times over."
